Long Nights, Birthdays, and Baths

Well, Wednesday night Jack did just great sleeping. He only got up twice, and he went right back to sleep after his tummy was full. Mommy was excited...perhaps too excited...last night was, yet again, another fiasco of a night for Mommy and Jack.

Jack went to bed like a champ. He and Mommy made it through feeding number one. Feeding number two was going just great until the diaper change mid-way through. In the midst of the split second when the old diaper is removed and before the new one covers all the important parts, Jack made a fountain all over himself and all over Mommy. Even though she was wet, Mommy wasn't to be discouraged... Until Jack spit up, what seemed like gallons, all over himself and Mommy!

Mommy changed her jammies and Jack's jammies. Once everyone was somewhat fresh and clean, Mommy thought Jack would snuggle right in. Not so much... Jack decided to wake Mommy up every twenty minutes from 3am until 6am when Mommy called it a night! Yep, Mommy got way too excited way too soon!

At six this morning, Mommy remembered that today is Jack's 4-week birthday! After the liquid events of last night, Mommy decided a bath for Jack was the best way to celebrate. Due to Jack's cord taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r to heal, this was Jack's first tub bath. He liked it! Here are the pictures. I even got to help!

Thanks, Grandma Lou!

This morning we had to say good-bye to Grandma Lou. Auntie Joy and Oliver came to pick her up and take her to the airport. Before they left, we posed for a few pictures. Here is Grandma Lou with "her kids". Mommy thought, since each person looked different in each picture, she would post all three. Thanks for coming to help us with our adjustment to Jack, Grandma Lou!

In other news... I was sad when Grandma Lou left, but I wasn't sad for too long! You know why? Cause a big, huge work truck drove by Jack's window! I sure do like watching the work trucks.
Of course, once the truck was too far down the road for me to see it anymore, I asked where Grandma Lou was. Dad said she was at the airport, so I started missing her all over again... Never fear, I'm only grandparent-less for three days. Great-Mom-mom arrives on Sunday! Fun times with grandparents will continue--Having a baby brother has turned out to be a pretty good deal!

Here's Jonah

Great-Aunt Kendy and Great-Uncle Jim gave me my farm set for my one-year-old birthday. Since then, I've had a good time playing with the animals and making the animal sounds.

My farm set also came with three farmers--two boy farmers and one girl farmers. Until yesterday, my three farmers did not have names. Yesterday I named the girl farmer "Jonah". Yep, the girl farmer's name is Jonah.

You may be thinking that Jonah is a boys' name. Everyone at my house thinks Jonah is a boy's name, but not me! I think Jonah is the perfect name for the girl farmer.

PS: I like naming my animals and toys. Grandma Carolyn said my Mommy used to do the same thing when she was a little girl.

From the other day...

Mommy found this picture on Grandma Lou's camera... It made her laugh!

Pictures

Well...Mommy hasn't taken many pictures, but Grandma Lou sure has!

Here is a cute picture of Jack taken today...

Here's me holding baby Jack...

And here's the family! (Yes, Mommy is tired...just in case you're wondering based on how she looks in the picture.)

After the roof and ball game...

...Norah and I sat in the grass and chewed on some ice. Ice helps us stay cool on hot, humid, August days!

Up on the Roof

Jack, who is still up to his staying-up-in-the-night tricks, is cramping Mommy's picture taking time. I'm thinking until Jack and Mommy get a bit more sleep, there might not be very many pictures of him. So, if you want to see pictures of Jack, pray he sleeps!

I, however, am having a wonderful time with Grandma Lou. This evening we spent some time throwing balls up on the roof. When the balls land on the slope of the roof, they roll back off the roof for me to catch. This game can keep me entertained for minutes upon minutes! Not everyone is allowed to throw things up on their roofs, but if you are allowed to do so at your house, you should give it a try! Let me know if you think it's as fun of a game as I think it is...

The Morning After

After a long night with Jack (also known as "The Screamer"), Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma Lou were moving a bit slow this morning. I followed their lead and took my time at breakfast while leisurely reading the paper...

Another New Thing

I started off this morning by holding Jack. Boy, oh boy, is he a noisy baby! Yep, my baby brother is quite the screamer! Regardless he's pretty cute, so we try not to be bothered by all the noise.

Then we had to say good-bye to Grandpa Jere. He has to be back at work tomorrow, so he made the long trip home today. Thanks for coming Grandpa Jere!

After holding Jack, Grandma Lou and I went on a few errands. At one of the stores we visited, Grandma Lou found a very special fire truck for me. It even came with a fire fighter named Michael. When I poke the lights, loud siren noises happen. I really, really like my fire truck. Thanks Grandma Lou!

Here's another picture of me and my fire truck. Pretty much I played with my fire truck all afternoon.

Pretty soon it was time for Dad and Grandma Lou to run another errand. I loaded up Michael and the fire truck, and off we went. Jack stayed at home with Mommy. Mommy said Jack seemed to like his swing this evening. Will he like it tomorrow evening? We'll just have to wait and see...

Pedals

Grandpa Jere decided my "push" trike and tractor aren't challenging enough for me. A trip to the store was in order so we could find a trike with pedals.

After the trike was found, it was back to the house for assembly time.

Grandma Lou, Norah, Maddie, and I settled in on the sofa to watch Grandpa Jere and Dad put the bike together.

It took a long time... I got hungry. Grandma Lou fixed lunch and put my booster seat in the family room so I could keep watching.

Finally the trike was finished! It was time to give the pedals a try. I'm getting the hang of it, but it might be a day or two before I'm a pro. "Practice makes perfect," says Mommy. And so practice I will!

Three Weeks Old

Today Jack is three-weeks-old. I decided to play my drum in honor of the day...

Then Jack and I sat on Grandma Lou's lap for a bit...

And now we're all tired, so we must go to sleep...

My Day

I had a very busy day today...

We started off the day with a haircut. One grandma, one grandpa, one mommy, two cameras, two popsicles, and a bowl of goldfish crackers later, well, I had a haircut!

After the haircut mess was cleaned up, it was time to play. I needed to play close to my window so I could keep an eye on the driveway cause Oliver was coming over to visit.

After having lunch with Oliver, we had a little fun in my water table. We are good splashers!

Oliver headed home for his nap, and I climbed into my crib for my nap. When I woke up, it was snacktime! Grandma Lou said I could eat my snack in the new chair Grandpa Jere found for me. She pushed up one of the kitchen chairs for my "table". This is a very serious snacking arrangement--too serious for smiling.

And that was my day! It sure is fun having lots of days in a row with grandparents!

Jack: A Picture from Yesterday

Today Mommy was looking through the pictures on Grandma Lou's camera, and she found this really cute picture of Jack.

We think Jack looks like me when his eyes are closed, and we think Jack looks like Daddy when his eyes are open! Either way, Jack is pretty cute...and that is a completely objective opinion...

Snoozing with Grandpa Jere

This afternoon I woke up from my nap to find this picture on Mommy's camera. Hum...it looks to me like someone didn't have to have his naptime in his crib. Instead, Jack got to sleep on Grandpa Jere!

We Forgot

We forgot to take pictures today.

Between saying good-bye to Grandma Carolyn (and all the crying Mommy did) and saying welcome to Grandma Lou and Grandpa Jere (and all the playing I did), we simply forgot to take pictures. Never fear, we still have the camera, and we'll take some pictures tomorrow.

It's pretty fun having more grandparents here! I have ten days with Grandma Lou and Grandpa Jere, then I have a three day-break before Great-Mom-mom comes in for a week. The days of grandparents continue! What a life I live!!! And all because of a baby brother! I'm thinking I'd like some more baby brothers if it would get me more grandparent time, but Mommy says we're done with brothers...and sisters, for that matter. Oh well, it was worth an ask.

Jack's jeans...and other things...

The other day Jack got a package in the mail. Inside there was an outfit for me and some jeans and a shirt for Jack. Mommy thinks Jack's jeans might be the cutest thing ever! This morning Mommy put Jack's jeans on him so he could have a picture with Grandma Carolyn. Here they are! Jack's jeans gave Mommy and Grandma Carolyn the giggles. "They are so little and cute," Mommy kept saying. Thanks for the jeans, Janet!

After Jack was dressed for the day (for the second time--Jack spits-up sometimes), it was time for Oliver, Grandma Lou, and Grandpa Jere to come to my house for lunch. After we ate, Oliver and I rode my tractor and trike. It sure was fun! I chased Oliver and then he tried to chase me!

Oliver went home for his nap, and I took my nap. While I was napping, the postal carrier knocked at the front door to say we had a package. It was a package from Ami, Daddy's first grade teacher. Now most everyone knows my Mommy loves a present, but did you know the one thing my Mommy loves more than presents? She likes presents that are wrapped super cute! And these presents from Ami more than qualified for the cute award. By the time naptime was over, Mommy was done admiring the wrapping and opening was allowed. Mommy, however, forgot to get pictures of the contents. Silly Mommy! Thanks, Ami for my dinosaur and my dinosaur book! Jack likes his blankie and sweater, too!

As usual, bathtime ended our day. Grandma Carolyn and I used up the last of the bath crayons. We made lots and lots of drawings! Then we cleaned up the coloring, finished my bath, and brushed my teeth before heading back to my room for jammies.

Grandma Carolyn leaves really early in the morning tomorrow, so we said our good-byes and read some stories. I will miss you Grandma Carolyn! Thanks for coming to help us get adjusted to Jack!

A Rainy Sunday

Pretty much it rained all day today. Not to worry, cause Sunday is a stay-home-day for Dad, and we played all morning, all afternoon, and all evening!

After riding the tractors at the home improvement store, we headed home to build forts. Dad put my Aunt Elizabeth Quilt over my table. Then he covered the ends of the fort with pillows. All that was left to do was for me to grab Big Blue and crawl on in. I did, and it was super fun!

For snack we cut open the watermelon Grandma Carolyn found on our grocery shopping trip. Yum! Watermelon sure is good. Usually Mommy cubes it for me, and we eat the chunks. But today Dad handed me a whole slice! Let me tell you, slices are more fun than cubes. Mommy still had her watermelon snack in cube form. Whatever floats her boat! Someday she'll figure out slices are better...

Not too long after snacktime, Uncle Tom called to talk with Grandma Carolyn. Then Aunt Tammy called next. I quickly dug through my toy bin and found my cell phone. Then I followed Grandma Carolyn around while we chatted. "Hello Tommy (that's what Grandma Carolyn calls Uncle Tom)," I said, "How are you?" When we were finished with our calls, I put my phone in my pocket just like Grandma Carolyn puts her phone in her pocket.

Just before bathtime our friends came by for a visit. People like to check up on Jack to make sure he's growing and stuff. Plus, they like for me to show them my big-boy room. Even though we had friends over, Jack and I still had our baths. I get to take a real bath, but Jack gets a "half bath" cause he can't get all wet yet. Here he is with Grandma Carolyn getting his hair washed. Jack loves to hear running water, and he especially likes the warm water on his head! Mommy says that it's a good thing, cause with Jack's head of hair, he needs a wash every so often.

And that about sums up our day! Hope you had a good day, too...

Getting ready for the grandma swap...

We're not allowed to talk about it in front of Mommy, but Tuesday morning is the day Grandma Carolyn has to go home. However, we are allowed to talk about the fact that Grandma Lou is the next grandma coming to take care of me while we get used to Jack! Yippee!!!

Yesterday was the day Grandma Lou and Grandpa Jere (he's staying for part of the time) arrived. They stopped by to meet Jack, give me my big-brother gift, and take a few pictures before heading over to Oliver's house. They're going to stay there until the "official swap" happens.

Here's a picture of me with both of my grandmas. Considering how far apart we all live, it's pretty neat we have so many pictures together.

And here's a picture of Jack with both of our grandmas. He wasn't very happy at this minute. I think he wanted some milk or something. Mommy says it looks just like the picture of me and the grandmas when I was little--I was crying, too!

Here's Grandpa Jere and me. I really like my Grandpa Jere. Yesterday Dad asked me who I wanted to change my diaper. Dad thought I would pick one of the grandmas, but I picked Grandpa Jere! Apparently Grandpa Jere does not change diapers, so I was out of luck. Never fear, there was a grandma ready to step in!

How Jack spent his Friday afternoon...

Jack spent his Friday afternoon sleeping and sleeping. And Mommy spent her Friday afternoon trying to convince Jack not to sleep. Sometimes Jack won out and other times Mommy won out. Regardless, Jack prefers sleeping in the afternoon over sleeping at any other time day or night. "I think over the next couple of months we might be in for a long, tired ride," said Mommy.

How I spent my Friday afternoon...

The heatwave we've been having pretty much did a number on the flowers in Mommy's pots. This afternoon, Grandma Carolyn and I took out the dead flowers and replaced them with some pretty, fall mums. I sure do like being outside. Mommy doesn't even care as long as I'm wearing play clothes and clean up before I step foot in the house. Mommy says the perfect place to be dirty is in the backyard! Thank goodness we have a backyard, otherwise where would I get dirty?
